Housewares Wednesday: Black & Decker Steam Mop Review & Contest

Posted by Hope on January 4, 2012 in Contests, Random Reviews, Uber Blogging

Sometimes you find products that make you not mind having to clean so much. This is one of those. I let my Aunt use this first and she raved and raved about how it got a stain from in front of my Uncle’s chair that she had tried & tried to get up. When I finally was able to try it myself I couldn’t believe how easy it was and how much more clean my floors looked.

I give it a 4 1/2 out of 5.

And because I enjoyed it so much I’m giving one away here on the blog. Entering is simple as 1, 2, 3. Contest ends midnight January 14, 2012

A friend forwarded this video to me in December and I kept thinking of things I’d like to try for 30 days to see if they stick or just to do for 30 days… one of the things I’m doing for January (I know 31 days….) is posting a picture every day here on the blog, on my Facebook page and on twitter. under the video is the first picture of the day :) Some will be friends, events, my fur babies and some will just be things that catch my eye during the day.

Here is my perfect little Sunday afternoon….Fur babies in my lap, football on the TV and Words with Friends on the iPad.

Movie Review: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 1

Posted by Hope on November 18, 2011 in Movie Reviews, Movies, MoviesTV, Uber Blogging

I have to say overall, I loved it! Yes there were some cheesy parts but it is supposed to be geared towards young people but then again this movie was not something I would really want my young girl to watch, if I had one. I get the fact that most of the fans have grown with the movie and are older now but some of them were way young when the movies started and still not quite where I would of wanted a child of mine to be to see a few portions of the movie. But extracting the few cheesy moments and a gross one or two and it is the best one yet!

The birth scene was great and horrible all at the same time. Jacob’s part was touching and most of Edward’s but there was a part that was just downright gross, I’m not going to sugar coat it. G-R-O-S-S and I think most of you will know it when you see it or will know what I’m talking about if you’ve already scene it.

I would say overall the effects were great. Yes there were one or two spots that it wasn’t “so great” but nothing to me that looked near as bad as when the first wolf came out like it was being rolled into the field in the Laurent scene from New Moon. That one still makes me laugh.

Also it is obvious to me that the whole cast has grown as actors. And I have to give props to the makeup department as it was the best yet. The makeup/hair has been my biggest complaint since the first movie but I have no complaints this time around!

I don’t want to do anything that is considered spoilers because even if you’ve read the books, the movie and the books aren’t always in straight line with one another.

So we went to see the movie at the Rave Theater and they had a marathon of the 3 previous movies starting at 4PM. I’ve done their marathons for each of the last 2 releases. It was a little less organized and “fun” this time. This time they just showed the DVDs of the movies and sometimes left it on the loop on the beginning of the DVD (each one) for way too long.

I won’t lie, I still feel Emmett gets the short end of the stick in both the movies and the books but at least he had more one liners this time. I really want another book/movie that focuses on the family as a whole rather than Edward and Bella…just sayin’ I guess the same could be said for Esme.

And there is just never enough Alice, Carlisle or Jasper either. And I still have some of the same questions after watching all 4 that I’ve had in the past. How can Jasper alter Bella’s mood and Alice see her future but Edward, Jane and Aro have no effect on her. You would think Jasper wouldn’t be able to either. And how does Jasper have all these battle scars yet none of them have scars from the many fights they’ve been in? It is the little things that drive me nuts when they don’t add up. I know, I know get over it lol

In a year I’ll be back at my theater at midnight to see Part 2 with even more anticipation than I had last night! But for now I’ll just see it again tomorrow night with my best friend!

I give it a 4 out of 5 rating!

Foodie Friday: Tex-Mex Lasagna

Posted by Hope on November 18, 2011 in Food, Foodie Friday, Recipes, Uber Blogging

Now that I’m in the new house (even though not completely settled yet) we’ve started having Sunday dinner at my house. This past Sunday was the first one and my plan is to try as many new recipes as possible on those days. This week was Tex-Mex Lasagna (recipe I found at myrecipes.com). It was delicious and makes a ton of food. If you’re looking for something small you’ll want to adjust the recipe.

We kept it simple and just served it with tortilla chips and a bit of sour cream on top.

I give this a 4 out of 5 rating! We’ll for sure be making this one again!

Ingredients

1 pound lean ground beef
1 cup frozen diced onion, red and green bell pepper, and celery
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon salt-free chipotle seasoning blend
1 (24-oz.) jar mild salsa
1 (15-oz.) can dark red kidney beans, drained
1 (10-oz.) can enchilada sauce
1 (10-oz.) package frozen whole kernel corn, thawed
16 (6-inch) fajita-size corn tortillas
4 cups (16 oz.) shredded Mexican four-cheese blend

Toppings: sour cream, chopped tomatoes

Preparation

1. Cook first 5 ingredients in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat, stirring often, 10 to 12 minutes or until vegetables are tender and beef crumbles and is no longer pink.

2. Stir in salsa and next 3 ingredients. Cook 5 to 10 minutes or until thoroughly heated.

3. Layer 1 cup beef mixture, 2 tortillas (overlapping edges), and 1/2 cup cheese in a lightly greased 7- x 5- x 1 1/2-inch baking dish. Repeat layers once. Repeat procedure with 3 additional 7- x 5- x 1 1/2-inch baking dishes. Cover dishes with nonstick aluminum foil.

4. Bake, covered, at 350° for 30 minutes; uncover and bake 5 more minutes or until bubbly. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. Serve with desired toppings.

Note: To use a lightly greased 13- x 9-inch baking dish, prepare recipe through Step 2. Omit 4 corn tortillas. Layer one-third beef mixture, 6 tortillas (overlapping edges), and 2 cups cheese. Repeat layers with one-third beef mixture, remaining 6 tortillas, remaining beef mixture, and ending with remaining 2 cups cheese. Bake, covered, at 350° for 40 minutes; uncover and bake 10 more minutes or until bubbly. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

Techie Thursday:iHome iH27 Portable Alarm Clock & Contest

Posted by Hope on November 17, 2011 in Electronic Reviews, Random Reviews, Uber Blogging

As anyone that knows me is aware, I’m not a morning person by nature and I don’t particularly like being woke up so alarm clocks are not my favorite items except when I don’t want to be late for something :)

The iHome iH27 is extremely easy to setup and use. There aren’t a ton of uneccesary buttons like with some alarm clocks/iPod players. The sound is great and I even use it when I’m cleaning on that end of the house for background music as I hate to clean in silence :)

I also love that it alleviates the need for another charger on my bedside table to make sure my iTouch is charged each morning for my busy days.

I give this a 4 1/2 out of 5 star rating.

To win an iHome iH27 Portable Alarm Clock just fill out the short form below before midnight 11/23/11. We’ll pick a winner on 11/24/11.
